Professional Standards

The Professional Standards Unit conducts internal affairs investigations to insure that staff members follow all policies and procedures as set forth by the sheriff.  Professional Standards also conducts follow up investigations for uses of force incidents, traffic accidents, and any injury or death of an employee, citizen or suspect involving a staff member.  The office of Professional Standards also receives and responds to citizen complaints and advises the Sheriff of any potential problems or civil litigation.

Training

The Training and Recruitment Unit is committed to delivering outstanding law enforcement training to both sworn and professional staff in order to prepare them for excellent service to the citizens of Duplin County.   The unit is focused on promoting professionalism in law enforcement with the primary goal of providing all employees of the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office with the greatest quality training possible.

The Training and Recruitment Unit provides mandatory training and in-service training at the sheriff’s office.  The training of all deputy sheriffs and detention officers is governed by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.

Recruitment
We are always seeking qualified and motivated people to work with our agency. As you know, a sheriff’s office is unique in that we have employment opportunities for all phases of law enforcement. For those who are interested in the law enforcement phase, we have sworn deputy sheriff positions. For those who have an interest in the corrections phase, we have positions available for civilian detention officers for our detention division.
