Employee Benefits

Full time employees of the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office have the opportunity to participate in many employee benefits including:

Medical Insurance
Duplin County offers health insurance benefits to all full-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). Employee-only premiums are paid in full by the county. Employees hired prior to July 1, 2012 are on the PPO plan with BCBSNC. Employees hired July 1, 2012 and thereafter are offered either a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) plan with an annual county contribution towards qualified medical expenses.

Supplemental Benefits
Duplin County offers employees several supplemental benefits such as disability, cancer, eye care, accident and life insurance policies at the employee’s cost. The county provides payroll deduction for premiums incurred from these plans. Some policies are eligible for pre-tax benefits.

Retirement
Full time employees are automatically enrolled in the NC Local Government Retirement System. Employees contribute 6 % of gross wages to the retirement account. Prudential 401K and Nationwide 457 retirement plans offer an additional way for employees to prepare for retirement and a more secure future. Under both plans, wages are payroll deducted pre-tax and deposited into the investment account. Many investment options are offered and loans are available.

Duplin County employees may accumulate sick leave indefinitely. All vacation time in excess of 240 hours is transferred to sick leave balances. The county provides 3. 7 hours leave per pay period (12 days per year) to each full time employee.
