AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS

 Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • 21 years of age at the time of application
  • Valid driver’s license
  • United States citizen
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • All applicants must complete a Duplin County application to be considered. Candidates must successfully complete the recruitment process to include: application, personal history statement, interviews, background investigation; polygraph, psychological evaluation, and medical examination with drug screen.
  • The following forms must be completed and attached to the Duplin County application for consideration:
  •  North Carolina Personal History Statement (F3) – complete, sign and notarize.
  • North Carolina Authorization for Release of Information Form – complete, sign and notarize.
  • Copy of birth certificate and/or certificate of naturalization.
  • Copy of valid driver’s license.
  • Copy of social security card.
  • Copy of high school diploma or certified copy of transcript, high school equivalency (GED) credential, and college transcript if applicable (seal not required).
  • Copy of military discharge papers if applicable.
  • Copy of credit report obtained within the last 90 days (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion).
  • *Note: Forms may be notarized at the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office at no cost.
  • The following is a summary of the steps in the recruitment process:
  • Step 1:             Completion of the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office Application Packet
  • Step 2:             Preliminary Screening (against job qualifications)
  • Step 3:             Interview Board
  • Step 4:             Complete Background Investigation
  • Step 5:             Polygraph
  • Step 6:             Psychological Evaluation
  • Step 7:             Sheriff and Chief Deputy Interview
  • Step 8:             Conditional Offer of Employment (pending Step 9)
  • Step 9:             Medical/Drug Screening
  •  Step 10:          Final Offer of Employment
  • The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office Application Packet should be submitted to the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office Professional Development Section. Applicants who meet the initial minimum requirements will be contacted for preliminary screening once the application has been reviewed.
